I don’t know exact stats.  I don’t have TV in my house (turned off Direct TV a year ago to save money) but I did hear that over 4,000 Americans are missing in Haiti, more than we lost in 9/11.  Not to mention the 1,000′s and 1,000′s of Hatians lives lost, or rendered homeless.

So here I am typing this on my new make-shift desk on the kitchen table.  My monitors are on the table, and my keyboard on a little fold-up table that is a tad lower.  To the right of me, I have a propane ceramic heater going which keeps the room toasty warm.  Just beyond that, the door to my husband’s office is open, and he’s staying warm too.  And 4′ in front of the heater, my cat is sprawled on the floor on her back, all 4 paws in the air, digging the heat.

We are lucky.  We have ways to keep ourselves warm.  They are predicting lows in the 20′s the next few days, but we can keep warm enough to keep us and the pipes from freezing.

So for the next week or two, we are all together in 2 rooms. (normally, my office is on the opposite end of the house and right now about 50 in there).  We have it pretty lucky.

So here I am, 6am down in the Seattle’s Best coffee shop at the Orleans Hotel getting my adult work done.  I had done some submits up before I left in advance, getting the galleries all ready, then come down here and submit them.  When I’m done, we pack up and go over to the convention for the day, then back here this evening to finish up work.  It has made for some long days, but in this economy, you do what you can to make ends meet.

I forgot to bring down the camera, but I’ll post up some pics from the show tomorrow.  I even saw they are having a debate on porn on the internet, with Ron Jeremy there, and regulations that they are trying to enact to keep freedom of speech suppressed.  going to check on that too…one thing I don’t want the government to get involved in is keeping porn for women from being posted up by myself and others.

Sometimes, its hard to realize Christmas isn’t about how many presents you give or receive.  Its about counting the blessings in your life.  The love of family and friends.  When I was a bit down yesterday,  I did a few things.

1. We hadn’t put up a tree yet, so while my husband was sleeping, I snuck out to storage and got our tree.  I was wheeling it in the house and saw the bedroom door still shut.  Good! I can get it up before he wakes up.  Came around the corner, and he was standing there and I jumped and made a little girly eeek!  So he helped me get the tree up, and we enjoyed the light show our fiber optic tree gave us.

Then, we went to Salvation Army to get some cheap blankets for our feral cats we take care of.  And found a little table that had drop leafs like we had wanted for $40.  It just needed a little sanding.  That was less than a 1/3rd of the ones we had seen that we couldn’t afford to get.  So that was our present to each other, and a project we can work together on.

I reached in my jacket pocket, and put all the change in the Salvation Army bucket when we went to the grocery store.  As I was walking around the store, I felt MORE change in there.  I feel that was my higher power telling me, I’ll always take care of you, so that change went in the bucket when we came home.

Finally, as we got home and were unloading the table, I saw an eagle dive across the street.  It made that eagle cry.  I’ve seen eagles here before, but always high up.  And I’ve NEVER heard one before.

All these things that happened to me yesterday were gifts.  I learned a long time ago to look for miracles in my life.  They are all around us every day, but we get bogged down with living, we forget to look for them.  Yesterday, when I needed them, I saw them all around me.  That is the gift of Christmas.

Smoking and high blood pressure, which both have effective interventions, are responsible for the largest number of deaths in the US. Other dietary, lifestyle, and metabolic risk factors for chronic diseases also cause a substantial number of deaths in the US.

It broke down to the top causes were Smoking, high blood pressure, physical inactivity, high salt intake, low omega 3 fatty acids in our diet, and high trans fats were the highest causes.  1 in 6 were from smoking and high blood pressure, 1 in 10 were from dietary and/or lack of exercise.  This is really scary news, because these deaths could have been prevented by simple changes in lifestyles.

I admit, I’m plump.  On my dad’s side of the family, most of my relatives are short and stout.  On my mother’s side, I’ve had great aunts get legs amputated from complications of diabetes.  So when my sugar started raising, but still in the normal range, I started changing my eating habits.  I’ve managed to reverse the trend, as my last blood test my overall sugar was down.   I’m also working out and slowly losing the extra weight.   My entire family has high cholesterol, and when I found mine high too, I went back to being a vegetarian and taking supplements and dropped my cholesterol over 100 points into the normal range… all without taking expensive and can have serious side effects statin drugs.

Its tough, I sit on my butt all day working on websites, so I have a pretty sedentary job.  There just isn’t a good way to exercise and type on a computer, lol.  But after buying a Wii, I look forward to working out every day and having it kick my butt.

What’s sad is, I remember as a kid playing outdoors alot in the summer.  We didn’t have video games, we built forts in the backyard.  Now adays, our youth is heavier than ever, and basic nutrition and working out isn’t emphasied in our school system.

And I’m all for a national health care plan, being self insured and paying high rates for crappy coverage, it can’t come soon enough.  But reading this, as a nation should we take on the burden of paying for people’s habits and lifestyle choices that cause untold $$ to be spent on health care?  There just isn’t a good answer.

So after your read my rant, get up.  Take a walk.  Do some jumping jacks, dance to a song on the radio.  Just get moving for a bit, and reverse the trend in this country.  Ok, nuff rant, back to the porn now.

So we tried out a bunch of the games, I probably worked out for a good 1/2 hour doing stuff like tennis, golf, bowling, boxing and inline skating.

Well I can’t move I’m so stiff, lol.  We drove into Vegas yesterday and bought our own Wii sports, that has the simple sports game.  That took up so much time, we didn’t work out yesterday, so by today, I’m REALLY sore.

So I start on the tennis, and do best 3 out of 5. (I lost)  Then I did 3 rounds of boxing. (I knocked the guy out, whoo hoo). Then I took the Wii fitness test.  Geeze, my Wii age is 54, just over 7 years what I actually am. (I’ll be 48 in August).  Of course, I did that after all that other stuff…next time I’ll do that first.

That is probably pretty accurate.  I’m a bit out of shape for my age, but not bad. And working on getting in better shape.  I can walk for an hour without any problems, but I haven’t worked my upper body out in a long time.  It is absolutely amazing how holding two remotes and moving can work you out as well as it does.

So I’m keeping up the work.  This afternoon, I’m challenging my hubby to tennis.  What fun that both of us, who can’t play real tennis because of knee issues, can play Wii tennis in the comfort of our cool home and not in the hot desert sun.  I see long soaks and stiff muscles coming up tomorrow.

Through the years, I’ve seen a lot of changes. I remember learning when I was first in the business, when building a free site, to not make the index page with more than 150k load, so that dial-up people could view the page. What a difference 10 years make! I see tours now for sites with multiple megs of loads, and being on a 6 mgs speed DSL, I can load it pretty fast.

I’ve also seen more sites for women crop up. It was literally impossible for me to find anything for women when I first went online. Then a few pioneers, like the two women who run For The Girls, came up with sites catered to women.

Ten years. I wonder what the next 10 will bring?

But my other passion is crafting. I’ve been a soaper for years, and had a company name that I got tired of. It had soap in title and really limited my product line. So after a lot of meditation and prayers, I came up with The Pampered Goddess. Registered the domain, got the DBA, then went to set up an eBay account, and it was taken, lol. So I added Magickal Shop, set up my wiccan blog up on The Pampered Goddess, and my store up on The Pampered Goddess Magickal Shop.

See, I believe strongly that all women are goddesses. And we deserve to be treated as such. It is one of the reason that I specialize in porn that has a lot of kissing, touching, licking and romance, but still leaves in the steamy sex bits too.

So I’m developing a product line that is a blend of all natural body butter, organic soaps, and will have essential oils for rituals, and dressing candles with. I also spent the morning shopping for stones, and I’m going to have some really cool rose quartz wands when they come in. I’ll have to take a picture of my office and post it some time, I LOVE crystals and stones. I have 5 crystals right now on my monitor stands, and the shelf behind me I bet has two dozen various stones that I’ve found or bought decorating it.

It is wonderful to be able to make money at what you love. I hope that everyone who finds my little corners of the world is so blessed in their life to be able to do that too.

I’ve seen my income drop since late October. And this causes a trickle down effect in my home town. I can’t afford to go out and eat as often. We really watch our WalMart shopping expenditures. (Heh, its the only gig in town to shop at). Dollars have been taken out of the local economy, because I’m not making as much as I used to.

Now think if some of the huge companies are also seeing losses, and how much less that has put into the economy, and I can see how this would have an effect. Lets face it, a $12 billion a year industry is going to have a major impact on the economy in America.

Our husband and I have noticed this. We are working 12 hour days trying to get our income up. Heck, it is 10:00pm, and I’m still working and yet to kick back and relax. I look at naked pictures all day, and stressing out over bills has us getting down and dirty a lot less often then we used to.

I went outside and took some pictures of my yard. They are a bit dark because it was still snowing when I took them.  My favorite was my mesquite trees.  They had a coating of snow on every branch, and were so pretty.  Sadly though, the snow was mostly gone by the next day.

In the meantime, I’m glad I’m indoors and toasty warm.

Me, I’m not too worried about driving in snow.  I grew up in Michigan, and this is nothing compared to what I’m used to.  Its the rest of the Nevadians that have never driven in snow that makes me glad I work out of my house and can stay home tomorrow.

Finished shelves and our new pantry.

This is what happens when you live in a small town and the social center is WalMart, and now Home Depot too. We always run into people we know and chat. We can never just run in and out of a store anymore….it always involves stopping to talk.

When we got to WalMart, I looked at my watch and told Jim, lets try to run in and out. Well, we ran into an old friend, had to wait for paint to be mixed, and the lines were kinda long. But the time we got back out, it was an hour almost exactly, and all we bought were two cans of mixed paint, lol.

Tomorrow we have to get all the shelves painted, as they are calling for rain starting Tues night. And I’m also getting kinda tired of my kitchen looking like a bomb went off with stuff everywhere.
